Winter is for the Love-Birds
Morro Bay is home to hundreds of migratory birds during wintertime. However, our favorites are the “lovebirds” that travel here in February for a romantic getaway. Whether it’s been five months, or fifty years, there are plenty of hangouts and hideaways for couples on Valentine’s Day or any time in February. Here are just some of our favorites:
Sleep in late at a waterfront suite:
Several of our romantic Inns are equipped with breathtaking waterfront views, private suites and warm fireplaces. The Estero Inn, La Roche and Harbor Front Suites are lovebirds’ paradises. These quaint Inns are nestled on the waterfront and only a few steps away from many of the Embarcadero’s restaurants, shops and attractions.
Eat breakfast at La Parisienne:
At the North end of Embarcadero on Front Street is La Parisienne Bakery. One of the locals’ best kept secrets, this French bakery carries a wide variety of excellent breakfast pastries, quiche, homemade bread, and other delicious baked goods. Stop by on your morning walk for coffee and share one of their homemade creations.
Say hello to our otters at Morro Rock:
Just steps away from La Parisienne is the waterfront boardwalk to Morro Rock. Park your car at the boardwalk’s parking lot (just across from the smoke stacks) and enjoy a leisurely walk to our famous landmark. The last of the Nine Sisters volcanic peaks, Morro Rock is a volcanic plug that doubles as a home to several birds and other wildlife. Be sure to look out for our sea otters; They typically like to have a snack by Morro Rock’s parking lot.
Wine tasting at STAX:
One of Morro Bay’s most popular hangouts is STAX Wine Bar and Bistro. Equipped with live music, a cozy fire pit and cool ambiance, STAX is perfect for a pre-dinner drink and a gourmet appetizer. Come in on Champagne Sundays for live music and unlimited bubbly for $20.
Dine at Windows on the Water or the Galley:
For those hoping to catch the sunset on Valentine’s Day, Windows on the Water or The Galley are the perfect restaurants to watch the sun go down over the bay and enjoy a delicious dinner.
Situated upstairs on the Embarcadero, Windows on the Water boasts romance with floor-length windows and candlelight dining. With a menu that changes with the seasons, Windows always has the freshest local and organic ingredients. Call ahead to make a reservation; tables by the window have the best view.
The Galley is also located on the Embarcadero. Known for serving farm-fresh creations, The Galley sources its produce from head chef Henry Galvez’s family farm. Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation, you won’t want to miss out on their exquisite pan-seared scallops.
