  • Lights of Hope
    Lights of Hope

    August 23, 2014

As the skies darken on the evening of Saturday,  August 23, 2014, the lights on and around Morro Rock Beach will dim, leaving the soft glow of the Luminaria lighting the Beach’s perimeter. Each Luminaria bag will be decorated to honor a cancer  survivor or to remember a loved one lost to the disease.

Please join us with your entire family for this inspiring, and moving event. The Luminaria Ceremony is the most inspirational part of Relay For Life. It is where we are able to honor our loved ones who are fighting the disease, celebrate those who have survived, and remember the ones we have lost. We do this by decorating white paper bags with the names and pictures of our loved ones, and lighting a candle inside before the ceremony starts. Gather your family and decorate Luminaria bags in honor of your loved ones, while making an effort in finding a cure for cancer! This short, but powerful,  event is not one you want to miss! After the Ceremony is over we will do a short 1K walk on the beach in remembrance of our loved ones.  No fee to register; $10 donation to decorate a Luminaria Bag

For More Information on the Lights of Hope, visit the Morro Bay Relay for Life webpage.

During 2014, join the community of Morro Bay as we celebrate Morro Bay’s 50th anniversary. Visit the Morro Bay 50th Anniversary website for complete details!

A myriad of year-round events energize this small coastal community, drawing visitors from far and wide to celebrate major holidays and take part in the fairs and festivals unique to Morro Bay. Devoted birders, binoculars in hand, migrate to the coast each year for the Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival. The annual Morro Bay Harbor Fest salutes the bounty of the sea and our coastal lifestyle. Other nautical events include visits by historic Tall Ships and the Blessing of the Fleet.

Major holidays mean major events, and Morro Bay knows how to celebrate them right. Fourth of July brings Art in The Park, a funny and family-friendly costumed bike parade, and of course, dazzling fireworks. December’s holiday events include the spectacular Lighted Boat Parade, always a delight for young and old with its sparkly vessels cruising the harbor.

No matter what your interest, Morro Bay has an event for you. We update both of our event pages regularly, so keep checking back so you’ll know what to do in Morro Bay.
