Spend all day outside:

Gently wake up to the shore birds, step onto the private balcony of your Morro Bay Hotel and breath in the salty air.  Slip on you shoes and enjoy a short stroll, in the cool morning, to a coffee shop where you can sip your coffee, tea, or juice on patios and back gardens.  Morro Bay has 10 coffee shops to choose from, so no matter where you’re staying there is sure to be a caffeine fix nearby.  Some hotels even offer specialty coffee drinks to their guests each morning.  Visit the lodging guide to learn more.

As the morning begins to clear, head to Morro Bay State Park for a hike to the top of Black Hill overlook and take in the city from above.  Or go for a run or a walk down at Morro Strand State BeachMontana De Oro State Park is only a few minutes’ drive out of Morro Bay and has miles of rugged coastline to discover either by foot or mountain bike.  All accessible year-round.

When it’s time for food, expect lots of variety, fresh seafood, local wine, beautiful views and plenty of outdoor seating at one of Morro Bay’s 70+ restaurants.  Enjoy delicious plates while spending time outside to the sounds of live music.  Visit the restaurant page to learn more.

With over 20 activity rentals on the water, you can rest assured Morro Bay accommodates your favorite pastime.  Kayak rentals, canoeing, surfing, paddleboarding, boating, fishing trips and more are all available along the waterfront.  Out of the water, you can visit one of the two bike rental companies in town or check to see if the hotel you’re staying at has bikes on site.  Between walking and biking, everything is accessible in Morro Bay – no need to take the car.

Round out your day with a visit to any of our natural wonder attractions.  Some outdoor landmarks are fixed all year, like the not to be missed Morro Rock and Morro Bay National Estuary.  But a huge benefit to great weather year-round is that you can experience how nature changes throughout the months.  Depending on when you arrive, you will see a variety of whales, otter pups, and fish species.  Elephant seals are just up the road.  Our Tide Pools change even more often – daily!  Click here for more outdoor adventures in Morro Bay.

Jobs and school force many of us to spend most of our day inside, and a trip to Morro Bay is a great excuse to turn that trend around.  Moderate weather year-round, great indoor/outdoor venues and numerous outdoor recreation activities make Morro Bay the perfect all outdoor town.
