Spring is officially in the air, which means Morro Bay is buzzing with exciting events that you won’t want to miss!

Whether you're a car buff, a lover of the great outdoors, or just looking to soak up some sun in our little slice of coastal paradise, Morro Bay is the place to be. If you want to join the fun, keep reading to learn more about 3 upcoming events— The Morro Bay Kite Festival, the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon, and the annual Cruisin’ Morro Bay Car Show— that are serving up some springtime fun for all ages.

1. The Morro Bay Kite Festival

Watch the sky fill with a kaleidoscope of color and join kite flyers of all ages in Morro Bay on April 26th through the 28th for the annual Morro Bay Kite Festival! This free community event draws in participants from far and wide to our serene coastal town, which has some of the best kite flying wind in the entire world. For a convenient and eco-friendly way to enjoy the event, we encourage all who are able to ride their bikes or consider carpooling, as parking is limited.

2. 28th Annual Cruisin’ Morro Bay Car Show

Since the first show in 1997, the beloved Cruisin’ Morro Car Show has taken to the streets on the first weekend in May every year, becoming a hub for car enthusiasts from California and beyond. This three-day event is about so much more than the celebration of classic cars; it’s a chance for the community to come together with people from all over, drawing over 500 registrants from across California and beyond! Join us on Friday, May 3rd for a daytime and evening cruise, and again the next day for a Show & Shine where you’ll get to talk with the car owners!

3. IRONMAN 70.3

Get ready for an epic display of strength and determination as the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon rolls into Morro Bay on Sunday, May 19th! Our town will be completely open during this time, so feel free to come by and enjoy our shops and restaurants while cheering on these incredible athletes.

​​The IRONKIDS event on Saturday, May 18th offers a chance for young athletes up to 17 years old to participate in events like the Diaper Dot Dash, Toddler Dot Trot, Half Mile, and the 1 Mile. Each race is $25 to sign up, and stay tuned for more details on time and location.

Families and visitors gearing up for the big event can find comfortable accommodations in town to unwind the night before. On race day, everyone can join the action, whether it's showcasing their athleticism or cheering on the racers while soaking up the bright Morro sun. After the excitement and adrenaline of the race wears off, the family can indulge in a delicious meal at one of the town's fantastic eateries.
