Summer may be drawing to a close, but trips to the beach aren’t over. In fact, now is the perfect time to visit Morro Bay!

Sunny coastal weather with clear blue skies and no crowds mark our Secret Season. Visit during September – November and be rewarded with the perfect conditions for outdoor Morro Bay activities, wine, great events, and sunsets.

Water Sports

The summer crowds leave as the Indian Summer hits Morro Bay with warm temperatures throughout the fall. Perfect weather to get on the water for paddleboarding, kayaking, surfing, and fishing adventures.

The bay offers unparalleled conditions for paddling. It is also home to many plants and animals to discover. Just be sure to give the animals enough space so as not to disturb them.

Local Tip: check the tides before you go as higher tides allow for easier paddling and further access into the National Estuary.

Paddleboard & Kayak Rentals: Estero Adventure, A Kayak Shack, Morro Bay Paddlesports, & Sub Sea Tours

Tours: Central Coast Outdoors (kayak tours from ½ day to sunset paddles), Morro Bay Paddlesports (paddleboard nature tours of the bay).

Take on the waves with equipment rentals, break locations, and up to date surf reports found in the Surfing Morro Bay blog. Or head out to open water on one of the local fishing charters. Commonly found fish in Morro Bay include Rockfish, Lingcod, Halibut, Tuna, & Salmon.

Wine

September is California Wine Month. And with two wine regions – Edna Valley & Paso Robles – easily accessible from Morro Bay, we’re at the center of it all. Many wine touring companies will even pick you up at your hotel...so you can enjoy a relaxed afternoon of vino without worrying about transportation.

Sunsets

Over six miles of beaches that face due west make for the perfect location to take in a beautiful sunset. As the sun dips below the ocean horizon watch as the sky is painted beautiful shades or pink and orange. A perfect backdrop for some photos or a fire at one of the city’s firepits near Morro Rock.
