Paddle with Witches and Warlocks in Morro Bay
The Witches and Warlocks Paddle is Morro Bay’s most unique Halloween tradition, where costumed paddlers take to the water for a fun, seasonal celebration! Participants bring their kayaks, paddleboards, and creative costumes to glide along the Embarcadero.
Spectators can enjoy the spooky spectacle from the shore, waterfront restaurants, or nearby parks. Enjoy this family-friendly event for classic Morro Bay coastal charm with a dash of Halloween magic.

How to Participate
The Witches & Warlocks Paddle is a free, informal community gathering: paddlers (witches, warlocks, and all manner of spooky costumes encouraged!) launch from the beach and paddle along the Embarcadero. There’s no registration required. Just bring your wetsuit/costume, your board or kayak, your safety gear…and, of course, your Halloween spirit!

Know Before You Go
Safety Information
- The Witches and Warlocks Paddle is a non-sanctioned event. No lifeguards are on duty. Participants are responsible for their own safety and the safety of minors in their party. Local water safety guidelines apply.
- Participants should follow Coast Guard regulations for personal floatation devices.
- Watch for tides, wind, and weather conditions. If unfamiliar with the bay, stay close to shore or near launch points.
- There is safety in groups. Paddle with a buddy if possible.
Helpful Tips
- Arrive early to secure ample space to launch your kayak or board
- Dress to get wet! Costumes are encouraged, but make sure anything you wear is safe on the water (secure your hats, choose materials that won’t drag, etc.).
Spectating
You don’t have to get on the water to enjoy all the fun! Each year, there are tons of spectators who watch the paddle from the shore. Some great spots to watch from are:
- Along the Embarcadero, between Morro Rock and the Morro Bay Yacht Club
- Restaurants and cafes with waterfront views
- At Coleman Park / Coleman Beach
